Fatal Clash Between Police, NSCDC in Ebonyi Claims One Officer’s Life

A violent confrontation between Nigeria Police Force officers and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel in Amaeze, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has left one policeman dead and others injured.

Ivo LGA Chairman, Chief Aja Emmanuel, confirmed the incident, stating he received a report from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) about the clash.

“The DPO informed me that a fracas occurred between police and NSCDC officers in Amaeze, resulting in the unfortunate death of one policeman. I’m still awaiting full details,” Ajah told journalists.

According to anonymous eyewitnesses, the deceased officer, identified as Shedrack, may have been accidentally shot by his colleagues.

The incident reportedly began when three Hilux vans carrying about 30 policemen intercepted an NSCDC van transporting mining equipment.

During the ensuing chaos, Shedrack allegedly tried to disarm an NSCDC operative. As other policemen opened fire on the NSCDC officer, they mistakenly struck Shedrack, killing him instantly.

Several others sustained gunshot wounds. The deceased officer’s body has been taken to a morgue, and the injured are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

As of now, neither the police nor NSCDC in Ebonyi has released an official statement on the incident.
