Abiodun Strengthens Grassroots Governance, Presents SUVs to 20 LG Chairmen
In a decisive move to deepen effective governance at the grassroots, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has presented Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to the chairmen of the state’s 20 Local Government Areas.
The presentation ceremony, which took place in Abeokuta on Thursday, formed part of activities marking the Christmas season and fulfilled an earlier pledge by the governor to support local government administration across the state.
Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Ganiyu Hamzat, Governor Abiodun said the provision of the vehicles was aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of local government chairmen and enabling them to deliver democratic dividends more efficiently to people at the grassroots.
The governor commended the council chairmen for their commitment and performance in service delivery, noting that local governments remain critical to the success of his administration’s development agenda. He reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to continue collaborating closely with local councils to improve the welfare and quality of life of Ogun State residents.
“This administration recognizes the importance of strong and functional local governments. By empowering council chairmen with the necessary tools, we are strengthening governance at the grassroots and ensuring that no community is left behind,” Abiodun said.
Responding on behalf of her colleagues, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun State chapter, Dr. Mrs. Afolasade Adeyemo, described the gesture as timely and impactful. She expressed deep appreciation to Governor Abiodun for fulfilling his promise and for consistently prioritizing grassroots development.
Adeyemo, who also serves as the Chairman of Odeda Local Government, praised the governor’s achievements in critical sectors such as education, housing, healthcare, and road infrastructure. She noted that the administration’s ISEYA mantra—Infrastructure, Social welfare and wellbeing, Education, Youth empowerment, and Agriculture—has repositioned Ogun State as a model of purposeful governance.
According to her, the newly acquired vehicles will significantly improve the ability of local government chairmen to access rural and hard-to-reach communities, engage directly with residents, and respond promptly to their needs.
She assured the governor of the unwavering support of all local government chairmen, pledging continued cooperation with the state government to sustain development and make Ogun State a source of pride for its indigenes, residents, and Nigerians at large.
The event was attended by top government officials, party leaders, and other stakeholders, underscoring the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots transformation.
