Shock and Fear After Same-Sex Couple Attacked in Ijebu Ode
A disturbing incident unfolded in the Oke Aje area of Ijebu Ode on Friday, August 1st, when a same-sex couple was reportedly attacked by residents after being caught in a private moment.
According to witnesses, the couple identified as Adewale Moses Adegeye and his partner Benjamin Okoli, were discovered at a residence on No. 12 Oke Aje Street and were quickly surrounded by angry locals. The situation turned violent, forcing the pair to flee for their safety.
Residents say the men were “caught in the act,” which allegedly triggered the aggression. While they managed to escape unharmed, the threat to their safety remains very real.
In a brief statement, Police spokesperson DSP Aguiyi confirmed the incident and said authorities are now investigating. “We are taking this matter seriously,” he said. “We urge members of the public not to resort to violence, no matter the allegation.”
But the response from some community members has sparked even more concern. One resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, claimed Adegeye has long been “known” for his sexual orientation and had even been reported to the community elders. “He’s a bad example. He will be dealt with if he returns,” the source warned.
Another disturbing detail came from a separate source who alleged that Adegeye had previously been forced to leave a community in Imo State under similar circumstances.
The police have launched an investigation, For now, Adegeye and Okoli are reportedly in hiding, fearing for their lives.
