Ogun Legislator Denies Land Grabbing Claims and Threats to Life Allegations
Obafemi Owode, Ogun State – In a recent statement, Honorable Adekunle Ajayi Lateef, a councilor representing Owode Ward 3 in Obafemi Owode Local Government, has categorically refuted allegations of land grabbing and threats to life made against him by Mr. Ajibola Johnson, the CEO of Young Agro’s Homes and Properties Limited.
The councilor expressed his astonishment at the claims, stating that the allegations are “entirely false” and “malicious.” According to Honorable Adekunle, the land in question rightfully belongs to him, and he has never encroached upon Mr. Johnson’s property. He emphasized that he possesses all the necessary documentation to prove his ownership.
In a detailed response made available to journalists in Abeokuta, Honorable Adekunle described the allegations as “mischievous, incongruous, discriminatory, misinforming, and utterly baseless.” He urged the public to disregard the reports and criticized media outlets for publishing what he termed “fake news” without proper investigation. “I have never taken another person’s land; the land belongs to me, not Mr. Ajibola. I have never encroached on anyone’s land,” he asserted.
The controversy arose when Mr. Johnson accused the councilor of making threats to his life and forcefully taking over his properties within the local government area. However, Honorable Adekunle dismissed these claims as an attempt to tarnish his image as a politician. “The issue of harassment and threats to life is nothing but untrue; Mr. Ajibola Johnson just wants to tarnish my image,” he stated.
In a surprising twist, Honorable Adekunle also alleged that Mr. Johnson had previously sponsored opposition parties during the last local government elections, actively working against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State. He claimed that Mr. Johnson had spent millions of naira to undermine APC candidates in the Obafemi Owode Local Government area, presenting him as a threat to the party’s interests.
This unfolding saga has sparked significant interest within the local community, raising questions about the integrity of political figures and the importance of responsible journalism. As the matter continues to develop, both parties remain at odds, and it remains to be seen how this dispute will impact the local political landscape.
Honorable Adekunle concluded his statement with a call for journalists and media houses to exercise due diligence in their reporting, emphasizing the potential consequences of disseminating misleading information.
