As Ogun State celebrates 50 years of its creation, former Caretaker Chairman and Secretary of Odeda Local Government, and former Board Member of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Hon. AbdulFatai Adebimpe, PhD, has described the milestone as a defining moment to reflect on the past, appreciate sacrifices, and recommit to a future anchored on inclusive governance and sustainable development.

Hon. Adebimpe, who also contested as a House of Assembly candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Odeda Constituency, joined other eminent sons and daughters of the state in felicitating with the government and people of Ogun State on the occasion of its golden jubilee.

In a congratulatory message to mark the anniversary, he commended the resilience, unity and perseverance of the people of Ogun State, noting that these qualities have been instrumental in the state’s steady growth over the last five decades.

According to him, the 50th anniversary of Ogun State is not merely ceremonial, but a timely opportunity to evaluate the journey so far, celebrate notable achievements, confront lingering challenges, and deliberately plan for a more inclusive and prosperous future.

“Ogun State at 50 represents the collective sacrifices, struggles and aspirations of our people,” Adebimpe said. “Since its creation in 1976, the Gateway State has continued to distinguish itself in education, industry, culture and human capital development, making meaningful contributions to national growth.”

The former local government boss emphasized the need for all-inclusive governance, stressing that genuine development can only thrive when leadership is people-centered and embraces citizens across all divides.

He explained that inclusive governance promotes unity, strengthens public trust and ensures that development projects and policies positively impact communities at the grassroots level.

“As we celebrate this golden jubilee, it is imperative that governance in Ogun State remains inclusive, transparent and responsive,” he stated. “Every citizen, irrespective of background, political affiliation or location, must feel the impact of government. Development must be equitable and far-reaching.”

Hon. Adebimpe also paid tribute to past leaders of Ogun State, applauding their efforts and contributions at different stages of the state’s development.

He acknowledged the roles played by former military administrators, civilian governors and other leaders who, through their policies and initiatives, laid enduring foundations in infrastructure, education, industrialization and social development.

“No meaningful progress can be discussed without recognizing the sacrifices of our past leaders,” he noted. “Though each administration faced unique challenges, their collective efforts have shaped the Ogun State we proudly celebrate today.”

Expressing confidence in the future of the state, Adebimpe described the next phase of Ogun’s development as one that must prioritize innovation, youth empowerment, economic diversification and policies that directly improve the welfare of the people.

He urged residents of the state to embrace unity, patriotism and active civic participation, stressing that the responsibility of building a greater Ogun State rests on both leaders and citizens alike.

“As Ogun turns 50, we must renew our commitment to unity and collective progress,” he added. “With shared vision and inclusive leadership, the next 50 years will usher in greater opportunities and prosperity for our people.”

Ogun State, fondly called the Gateway State, was created on February 3, 1976, and has since emerged as one of Nigeria’s foremost industrial, educational and cultural hubs.
