Makinde to Adeleke: “Osun Deserves Better” as APC Backs Oyebanji for 2026

Ile-Ife—A prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Rotimi Makinde, has faulted the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the current state of governance in the state as deeply troubling and divisive.
Speaking with journalists in Ile-Ife on Tuesday, Makinde, who is also known for his advocacy for peace and unity, warned that Osun State was “sliding into dangerous territory” under what he characterized as a leadership driven by sentiment rather than sound governance.
“Osun State has never been in such a dire state,” Makinde said. “Governor Adeleke’s tenure has been marked by sentiment and desperation, pitting towns against each other in a bid to have their sons and daughters become governor. This has led to unprecedented bias and discrimination.”
According to him, the alleged favoritism and politicization of governance along communal lines have weakened trust in government and slowed development across several parts of the state. He argued that Osun urgently needs a leader who would rise above sectional interests and govern with fairness and inclusiveness.
“We need a governor who will be fair to all, rule without prejudice, and prioritize the needs of every community,” he said. “Someone proactive, decisive, and without external handlers dictating their actions. A leader who will unite, not divide.”
Makinde went further to advise Governor Adeleke to take a realistic assessment of his administration and begin preparing for a transition of power, insisting that the people of Osun deserved a better deal.
“It’s time for Governor Adeleke to write his handover note if he’s a realist,” he declared. “Osun State deserves better. It’s time for change.”
The APC chieftain used the opportunity to canvass support for the party’s governorship candidate, Alhaji Bola Oyebanji, whom he described as the most suitable candidate to lead the state into a new era of unity and progress.
“The APC governorship candidate stands out as the best man for the job,” Makinde said. “With a proven track record of leadership, a commitment to unity and progress, and a clear vision for Osun State’s future, he embodies the qualities needed to steer our state towards greatness.”
He added that Oyebanji’s leadership style would be anchored on fairness, equity, and decisive governance, stressing that the APC candidate would prioritize the needs of all communities without bias.
“He will be fair to all, rule without discrimination, and focus on development across the state,” Makinde said. “He is proactive, focused, and independent-minded. He is the kind of leader Osun State needs at this critical time.”
Makinde called on residents of the state to look beyond sentiment and vote for competence, unity, and vision, urging them to support the APC’s bid to reclaim Osun State and “restore effective governance.”
As political activities gradually intensify in the state, his remarks are expected to further shape public debate around governance, leadership, and the future direction of Osun State.
